What is the state of Ireland’s mental health services? How can you help?
Last February, Mental Health Reform’s and A Lust for Life’s #InOurHourOfNeed campaign (in conjunction with Uplift and Future Voices) resulted in a petition of over 12,000 signatures calling on the Government to prioritise the provision of 24/7 mental health services in every community.
Minister for Health, Simon Harris, has since committed to the provision of €105 million in investment in 2019, which is a welcomed step. However, there is so much more to be done…
Mental health advocate and DJ Nikki Hayes will chair the opening panel, including consultant psychiatrist, Dr Pat Gibbons Brian Higgins, CEO of Pieta House, Shari McDaid CEO of Mental Health Refrom and Majella Darcy, Head of Treatment and Enterprise with the Dublin Simon Community, who will reflect upon progress made thus far, consider next steps, and shine a light on why 24/7 mental health services is a bare minimum requirement #InOurHourOfNeed.
This #InOurHourOfNeed event will also be a participative event in the World Café style, which will invite and welcome audience participation to get into round table discussions after the opening panel to explore collective solutions. The aim of the event is to identify key issues and potential solutions to providing out of hour’s crisis mental health services in every community across Ireland.
This one-off event is a fantastic opportunity to gain an understanding of Ireland’s current mental health policy, and to find out how you can help out.
This festival venue is a wheelchair accessible venue.
