Cistin

Join us in our Cistin (the Irish word for kitchen) for an evening of poems, songs, and conversations.

We are delighted to partner with St Patricks Hospital again this year to host a celebration of community and connection through music, poetry and performance.

Join us in our Cistin (the Irish word for kitchen) for an evening of poems, songs, and conversations that bring us together and nurture community in these challenging times.

This year’s curator is First Fortnight’s Trudie Gorman. Trudie is a writer, performance poet, and community development worker.

We will be joined on the night by three special guest performers including Dafe Orugbo, Jess Maire Timlin, and Tara Carroll.

Dafe Orugbo is a multidisciplinary artist with a dynamic artistic practice coupled with years of industry experience. He is particularly interested in art that centers the audience experience, as seen in his work with the Dublin Fringe or the Word Up Collective. One of Ireland’s most creative and forward-thinking musicians, Dafe Orugbo has achieved international acclaim as one half of hip-hop duo Tebi Rex, releasing two albums and touring Ireland, UK, and Europe. He writes on topics ranging from modern-day Ireland to Greek mythology and is an experienced public speaker, live performer, writer, spoken word artist, and podcaster. With an MA in Critical & Creative Media, he has become a leading cultural commentator and a respected mentor to young people.

Jess Marie Timlin is a queer singer-songwriter from Dublin who combines alternative pop with indie folk to create emotionally raw, captivating music. She performs with her guitar at open mics and showcases around Dublin and is set to release music in the new year. You can find her @jessmarietimlin on tiktok and Instagram.

Tara Carroll is a multidisciplinary artist whose collaborative art practice creates meaningful interactions for communities of interest to elevate their voices through artistic expression, infiltrating art spaces many find inaccessible. They strive to use their practice, privilege and position to advocate and alleviate barriers for communities such as the queer and disabled community to access art and spaces. In recent years, Tara has been awarded the Arts Council’s Capacity Building Award; Artist in the Community Scheme Research and Development Award; The Arts Act Grant by Kildare County Council, the Arts Council’s Agility Award and Arts and Disability Ireland Training Connect Award, and the 2019 Emerging Irish Artist Award Residency, Burren College of Art, Clare. They were awarded a Temple Bar Gallery Project Studio Award in 2022. They also run Chronic Collective, a multidisciplinary art collective focused on creating accessible space for sick and disabled people in the arts.
