How Aria

First Fortnight in partnership with Irish National Opera and St Patrick‘s Mental Health Services present How Aria? Irish National Opera Composer Amanda Feery and First Fortnight Writer Stephen James Smith worked with service users of St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services as part of ‘How Aria?’, a new community and outreach initiative. The project has seen service users of St. Patrick’s collaborate with Amanda and Stephen to create a new concert aria which will have its world premiere in St Patrick’s University Hospital during the festival. It will be performed by an Irish National Opera singer accompanied by the Bangers and Crash Percussion Group, a collective of Ireland's finest percussionists. The event will also include a discussion around the process of the piece’s composition and an incredible rendition of Goldbeats Skin by Christopher Cerrone.

Composer Amanda Feery and poet Stephen James Smith worked with service users of St Patrick’s Mental Health Services as part of How Aria?, a new community and outreach initiative to be premiered as part of First Fortnight Festival in collaboration with Irish National Opera.

 

The project has seen service users of St Patrick’s collaborate with Amanda and Stephen to create the text for a new concert aria which will have its world premiere in St Patrick’s University Hospital during the festival. The event will also include a discussion around the process of the piece’s composition as well as a performance of Goldbeater’s Skin by Christopher Cerrone.

 

The performance will feature singers Bríd Ní Ghruagáin (mezzo-soprano) and Dominica Williams (mezzo-soprano) accompanied by the Bangers and Crash Percussion Group.

 

This performance is generously supported by Irish National Opera’s ABL Aviation Opera Studio.
