First Fortnight in partnership with Goethe-Institut Irland present Laura’s Journey / Le Voyage de Laura by Pic Films.

Laura’s Journey (2018) Swiss documentary directed by Matteo Born. Winner of Best Film Award at Festival Mental 2018 in Portugal. Duration: 55 minutes. English and French language with subtitles.

Following a traumatic experience Laura wishes to regain control over her life. A silver platter is the only thing she kept from her ordeal during a humanitarian project. The young woman is now preparing for a decisive journey in North Africa.

Due to the sensitive nature of the documentary, some audience members and those who have survived sexual abuse might find the content of this documentary upsetting. If anyone in the audience feels triggered at any point during the screening, please feel free to leave the event at any time.

Laura’s Journey will be preceded by Franco-German animated short Drifting Away. Drifting Away/ À La Dérive (2016) is produced by Fabian&Fred and directed by Cyprien Clément-Delmas. Duration: 14 min. French language with English subtitles.

    Drifting Away

Paul dreams to go sailing with his father but due to depression his father literally disappears before his son’s eyes. Paul tries to understand what happens to his father and how he can help him before he completely disappears.The family threatens to collapse and Paul faces a tough decision.

   Pauls Boot

Paul träumt davon mit seinem Vater segeln zu gehen aber durch die Depression verschwindet er buchstäblich vor den Augen seines Sohnes. Die Familie droht auseinander zu brechen und Paul steht vor einer schweren Entscheidung. Paul versucht zu verstehen was mit seinem Vater geschieht und wie er ihm helfen kann bevor er komplett zu verschwinden droht. 

   À La Dérive 

Paul rêve d’aller naviguer avec son père mais ce dernier sombre soudainement dans une profonde dépression. Il disparaît chaque jour un peu plus devant ses yeux. La famille est affectée et Paul doit prendre une décision avant que son père ne disparaisse totalement.
