As always, longtime friend of First Fortnight Stephen James Smith curates the poetry and spoken word at Therapy Sessions Dublin .

Raymond Antrobus 

Raymond Antrobus was born in London, Hackney to an English mother and Jamaican father. He is the author of To Sweeten Bitter (2017, Out-Spoken Press), The Perseverance (2018, Penned In The Margins / Tin House) All The Names Given (2021, Picador / Tin House) and the children’s picture book Can Bears Ski? (2020, Walkers Books) In 2019 he became the first ever poet to be awarded the Rathbone Folio Prize for best work of literature in any genre.  

 

Paula Meehan 

PAULA MEEHAN is one of the best-known contemporary Irish poets. She studied at Trinity College, Dublin, and in the MFA programme at Eastern Washington University. Besides seven award-winning poetry collections she has also written plays for both adults and children. She has conducted residencies in universities, in prisons, in the wider community, and her poems and plays have been translated into many languages, including Irish. She has collaborated with musicians, visual artists and dancers, most recently with artist Dragana Jurišić in a book of photographs and poems, Museum, responding to No 14 Henrietta Street, the Dublin Tenement Museum. Paula Meehan’s poetry collections in print include  Dharmakaya and Painting Rain, from Carcanet Press, Manchester and from Wake Forest University Press, North Carolina. Geomantic, a long poem in 81 parts, published in 2016 by Dedalus Press, received a Cholmondelay Award for Poetry. Music for Dogs: Works for Radio, is also available from Dedalus Press. As If By Magic: Selected Poems, was published 1st of October, 2020, by Dedalus Press. From 2013 to 2016 Paula Meehan was Ireland Professor of Poetry and her lectures from the Chair, Imaginary Bonnets with Real Bees in Them, is published by UCD Press. A collection of critical essays on her poetry and plays, edited by Jody Allen Randolph, was published by the U.S. journal An Sionnach. Paula Meehan’s awards include the Butler Award of the Irish American Cultural Institute, the Laurence O’Shaughnessy Award, the Denis Devlin Award and the Marten Toonder Award. 

 

Gerard Devine 

Gerard Devine is a fireman from Dublin who writes and performs poetry. (full bio to follow)

Holly Munro 

Holly Munro, an emerging Irish singer-songwriter, is gaining recognition for her electronic-infused folk-pop sound. With acclaim from BBC 6music and Radio X, she released her debut EP, ‘Up Against Your Nature,’ on November 3rd via Kartel Music Group. Holly also showcased her talent at Ireland Music Week, and Other Voices in Dingle Collaborating with producer Luke Potashnick at Wool Hall Studios in Frome, Somerset, Holly has crafted a distinctive sound that draws inspiration from electronic icons like Bjork and Kate Bush, as well as folk legends like Joni Mitchell and Big Thief. 

 

this is a bug  

this is a bug is the new project from Róisín Ni Haicéid, known for fronting the indie dreampop band Banríon. Róisín is known for the way she pairs a jangly indie rock sound with soft lyrics about her experience of disability, love and loss, set in the ever changing city they are all cursed to love. Róisín has collaborated with fellow Irish musicians with ‘Do You Miss Her’ written with fellow Dublin musician qwasi, which indicates a new direction for her work, taking on queer lyricism and dreampop tones - GCN. She recently released ‘End Times’ as a single. “Her growth as an artist is effortlessly on show with the single’s softer sound” – Hot Press
