First Fortnight Festival 2020 Open Callout
First Fortnight wish to commission an artist or organisation to deliver a special project as part of First Fortnight Festival 2020. Interested parties from any discipline are encouraged to submit a proposal with one or more of the identified following communities:
1) Migrant &/ Refugee Community
2) Traveller Community
3) Homeless Community
From August, the commissioned Artist/Arts Org will visit and engage with the respective community/communities and from this participatory collaboration, a new art piece will be created. This new creation will be included as part of the January 2020 festival programme e.g. a sculpture exhibited, a spoken word performance, a theatrical extract performance, a musical performance etc. The work should reflect and represent the group, and help communicate and challenge the barriers the group has experienced in relation to accessing both mental health and the arts.
Average bursaries for this open call range from €2K to a maximum budget of €4K inclusive of all costs e.g. artist fees, travel, materials etc. It should not include marketing costs, as these will be covered by festivals communications.
Interested artists or organisations are asked to submit a 2 page max project proposal accompanied with a 1 page cv or link to more info on the artist's work. Community organisations are also welcome to apply but must have identified an artist to collaborate with on the project in their proposal.
The project proposal should include:
- The artist's vision and concept
- The selected group/s and why
- The artist’s plan to access and engage with the community e.g. will you contact a specific organisation active in the community, do you have a pre-existing relationship with an organisation?
- The artist's proposed timeline and activity plan
- The budget breakdown
Proposals should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org with the title "FF2020 Submission."
Deadline to submit is June 30th.
Submissions will be reviewed and announcement made mid-August.
