Have you ever volunteered before? Do you know what it entails? We asked one of our seasoned volunteers, Barbara Ebert, why she enjoys volunteering and why she returns each year. Read on to find out what she said.
I didn’t really know much about First Fortnight Festival until I volunteered for it, and I am really glad that I did volunteer. The events are so diverse and all very interesting. There hasn’t been one at which I regretted to work.
I also learned a lot about mental health, because I haven’t been directly confronted with it in my family or friends. I enjoyed meeting and talking to people affected by mental health issues, it definitely gave me a better understanding of the conditions.
Highlights for me were a concert resulting from a workshop in St, Patrick’s Hospital and a one man show about a boys life in various institutions in Smock Alley Theatre.
I’m looking forward to the next festival and to lots of exciting events.
