Bethencourt Productions monthly Literary Cabaret at Buswells Hotel presents: a special Literary Cabaret of Madness in European Literature. Focusing on representations of mental illness in literature and works by authors with self-experience of mental ill health. Theatre scenes, poetry, stand-up comedy, music and dance inspired by: Irish myths and legends, Buile Suibhne’s metamorphosis & Lady Gregory’s stories. Brian Friel’s representations of madness in Irish society. Robert Burton’s humors and melancholy. Angela Carter’s joyous and dark sexuality, D.M.Thomas’ imaginary female patient of Freud, Holderlin, Nietzche & Kleist’s demons, Virginia Woolf’s self-doubt, Gerard de Nerval & Leonora Carrington’s experience of madness. MC Leonor Bethencourt brings artists together from the music, comedy and theatre scene in Dublin to perform a variety of acts to bring the audience to a high and then a low and rounding up with the calming effect of Gregorian chant.
