The Sea & Me – Nollaig na Man

Panel Discussion with Claire Walsh and Ruth Fitzmaurice.

In recent years, Irish women have taken to the sea for the physical and mental health benefits of open water swimming. In this panel discussion, we will hear from two women who turned to the sea for solace, motivation, and joy. Claire Walsh, author of Under Water is a freediver, year-round sea swimmer and teacher of breathwork courses who moved to the coast in her twenties and never looked back. Ruth Fitzmaurice is the author of I Found my Tribe, the moving tale of how she found solace from family trauma in the cold waters of the Irish Sea.

Additional Info

There is a social narrative available for this event. Some people find new places and events difficult and may find a social narrative helpful. You can find it here: Smock Alley Social Narrative

Chaired by Maria Fleming, CEO, First Fortnight.

All spaces in Smock Alley are accessible by wheelchair. Please inform the box-office at the time of booking of your accessibility requirements. Boys’ School access is through the fire escape door which opens directly out on to Exchange St Lower. There is a step up to this door but we have a temporary ramp that we put out for access requirements. Smock staff will always be on hand to assist.
